A Note About the Pick’Ems
I screwed up big time last week. While I published my Week 7 picks here on my site, I neglected to save the entries to the ESPN Pick’em. I was traveling all weekend and didn’t realize it until all but Hawaii vs Boise State kicked off. All I was able to earn was 10 points. In reality, 9/10 of my picks were right and were worth 53/55 points.
But I won’t be making that same mistake again. And there’s still enough time for me to regain the lead in my pick’em group… of two.

8. Utah -13 over Arizona State
The only reason this is an “8” confidence-level is because it’s the last game on this list that’s a double-digit point spread. The rest start getting shaky. I honestly have watched so little Pac-12 football that I’m picking Utah solely based on 1) the spread, and 2) seeing them in Week 1 vs BYU.
7. Penn State -9 over Michigan
A spread of 9 shows how little I actually know about football, because I would have made this a 17-point spread for the Nittany Lions. Michigan
(state too) cannot move the football against a strong defense. This will be loss #2 for the Wolverines, and Harbaugh’s going to need some more milk to cool his seat off.
6. Boise State -7 over BYU
I’m going to pick against BYU all season. I still can’t get over the “they some poo poo” post-game quote. It’s so quintessentially Mormon.
5. Iowa State over Texas Tech +7
Iowa State = 50/50 chance of getting this pick right.
4. Florida -5 over South Carolina
Sound reasoning tells me that Florida (under Trask) will easily take care of the Gamecocks, but I — like everyone reading this — am still stunned at what Muschamp’s crew did in Athens last week. Can they do it again and make utter chaos out of the SEC East?
Again, sound reasoning says no, but my low confidence says eeeeeeeeek…
3. Memphis -4 over Tulane
Tigers are pissed off after their game-winning touchdown was waived off to end the game vs Temple, resulting in their first loss of the season. I think Memphis wins, but their defeat will linger on and distract them enough to keep this game close.
2. Oklahoma State -3.5 over Baylor
Fun fact: Per The Athletic, Baylor is a whopping 1-11 in Stillwater since joining the Big 12. Big Yikes.
1. Washington +3 over Oregon
